Become an Investor
A few years back, I decided to splurge on a chair for my living room. It was a black and white buffalo check chair with some mid-century detailing, and it was an investment. But it was an investment I was willing to make because that chair was going to be mine. It was going to be a reflection of me. That chair sat in my living room next to our sofa and it was in the direct line of sight as you came down the stairs.
You see, the only rooms upstairs in my home are my girls’ rooms. So the chair would be the first piece of furniture they would see when they came down each morning. However, the chair by itself was not the image I was hoping they would capture; the image I was hoping they would remember was me sitting in the chair. It was me drinking a cup of coffee, reading, and enjoying the gift of home.
I wanted them to think of me when they saw that chair. I may be a bit sappy, but when you get a glimpse of just how fast time flies, sometimes you have no choice. That buffalo check chair was an investment I was willing to make because when I am gone, I want my girls to see that chair and still think of me. The chair may no longer be design-forward at that time, and I know it will eventually make its way into a different room... but it will always be mine. So invest in your story, find your chair, and write your story of home. You are not the only one reading it.
